IwamotoScott Architecture is led by partners Lisa Iwamoto and Craig Scott. The practice evolved alongside teaching careers begun at University of Michigan, growing into a full-fledged architecture and design office after moving in 2002 to the San Francisco Bay Area. The work we focus on ranges widely in scale and scope: from fabrication-intensive installations and public artwork, to bespoke residences at both single and multifamily scales, innovative new workspaces and company headquarters, new homes for institutional clients, and on up to large scale urban development projects. Committed to pursuing architecture as a form of applied design research, IwamotoScott proceeds from the belief that each project can achieve a unique design synthesis.
Based in San Francisco since 2004, IwamotoScott has gained widespread recognition for innovative design work. The firm has received over eighty awards and honors, including: The National Design Award in 2019 from the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, induction into the Interior Design Hall of Fame in 2018, the Women in Architecture Award from Architectural Record in 2018, the ACADIA Digital Practice Award of Excellence in 2017, the Groundbreakers Award from Curbed national in 2015, Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard in 2011, both Emerging Voices in 2007 and The League Prize in 2002 from The Architectural League of New York, and the Monterey Design Conference Emerging Talent award in 2004 from AIA CA. Individual project awards include a Progressive Architecture Award, 20 AIA Design Awards at local, state and national levels, numerous Architzier A+ Awards, Architects Newspaper Best Of design awards, FastCo Innovation By Design Awards, IIDA Honor Awards and Interior Design Best Of Year honors.
The work of IwamotoScott has been published in hundreds of books and journals, and exhibited in over 50 museums and galleries worldwide, including MoMA, SFMOMA, the Guggenheim, Vitra Design Museum, Artists Space Gallery, SCIArc Gallery, and the Beijing, Seoul and Tallinn Architecture Biennales.
