Multifesto: A Communal Design Manifesto was an initiative created to coincide with the release of Multiple Signatures(Rizzoli) by Michael Rock and the inaugural NYCxDesign festival. Multifesto is comprised of three-word design manifestos contributed by designers from diverse aesthetic, disciplinary, and geographic backgrounds. Using a simple mad-lib format — verb + preposition + noun — the Multifestoframes design as a verb: an active engagement with the world around us.
The first iteration of Multifesto went live during NYCxDESIGNfrom May 6–21, 2013. During the festival, selections from the ever-growing Multifesto were broadcast in 7,000 New York City taxis via TaxiTV and on multiple urban screens in Times Square. Multifesto was also incorporated in Architizer's first annual A+ Awards Gala, as part of the winner's acceptance speeches.
