Michael Wilson's profile

Engadine Health Precinct

The Engadine Health Precinct is a refurbished retail building built during the '90's. The brief began as an extension to an existing, internal mezzanine level and the inclusion of two additional tenancies on ground level. Through further site investigation, it was established that the public identity of the building needed updating. This was addressed using two approaches: refinishing the external facade and creating retail presence at street level.
The origional building was built during the 1990's and is primarily constructed using pebble-crete tilt panels and FC sheeting. With a tight budget and a predefined shell built to the boundary, the challenge became about addressing the ridgid mass of the building using differnt, low to mid range products. The solution was to resurface and continue the exsitng parapet around the building and by using varying levels, give the impression of a different form.
Concept:
The clients (and also primary tenant) pharmacutical background initiated an investigation into the form of various pills.
If the array is extended, the capsules create a fuild grid that orders the lower profile of the silhouette.
The grid is then modified according to various site / pre-existing conditions and assigned to the lower section of the parapet  sheeting.
