This work consists of exploring my own skin as a place, as a material and means to reach an end. The skin is the largest organ of the human body and is, above all, the one that “covers” us. Without this film that surrounds us, nothing that makes up the so-called “machine”, which is the human body, could exist. This pellicle secures us, keeps us biologically organized and, in numerous situations, dresses and masks us when we need it most. The skin registers everything that suffers and changes as the scars appear. Our body, in its most physical and literal sense, is a work in constant change that, even after our death, will never stop decaying.
The creation of a space made of human skin is an idea that I have been reflecting on. From simple coated objects, to lined rooms, the skin and the exploration of its limits have been my focus. By assembling small models and photographs of them, I managed to achieve some examples of what I want to do and their potential starting points. In a wooden box, I created a small scenario of what, for me, could be a space of comfort.
The strength of this work is photography. Photography has been the key to the development of my projects, allowing me to register my eyes on the things I am exploring. This skin space is strange, remote and dark. It is not a scene from a movie or a theater stage. Still, it manages to be space.
The relationship between psychological and physical space is something that I look for in my work. This corner is an ideal space, where silence, shadows and the geometric texture of a skin reign. The desire of living it from the inside, to be able to walk barefoot on it and run your hands over its walls. To be able to feel that, perhaps through walls and ceilings, my skin holds me.
