This project explores the concept of distortion in cartography and in human memories. Distortion is a constant in maps, due to differing map projects, reproductions, and symbolized representations. Similarly, our memories are distorted by re-remembering  every time we think about them.

In a map projection, a 'standard line' is the line where the projection is tangent to the imagined globe, resulting in a single line where neither shape, area, or local angles are distorted. I combined this idea with the beauty of watershed or catchment maps to represent 'standard lines' in my memory-- memories that stand out as clear and distinct.

Water is a life blood, running through us all. Experiences of water connect times in my life that are separated by otherwise murky or inaccessible memories.
