FLATWARE FOR COLLABORATION

FLATWARE FOR COLLABORATION
2017
Some fast model-making to address the issue of possessive and anti-social eating. The flatware forces people to break the boundaries of dining etiquette and find ways to eat together by being collaborative. The aim of the project is to challenge people and their personal limits as well as changing behaviour.
PATIENCE

The dual cup tests patience as the users have to wait for each person to finish taking a sip while they both hold on to the cup. An opening at the bottom of the cup allows for the liquid to flow both ways.
BOUNDARIES

The double-headed spoon pushes social boundaries and encourages its users to invade each other’s privacy. The act of eating is already quite intimate but how much further can we take it?
TEAMWORK

The round knife needs two users to fully cooperate in order to turn and cut the food. It requires balance, technique and good communication.
SYNCHRONICITY

The synchronicity plate tests relationships by demanding that it’s used by both participants simultaneously. If one attempts to eat first the other’s food will drop. Trusting and paying attention to your dining partner comes into play making this a tool for an engaged and immersive meal.
