Playhouse on the Square

Project included programming, design, rendering, coordination, and construction documentation.
This new building contains a 350-seat proscenium theater, art gallery, multi-function rehearsal room, scene shop, andd extensive lobby and roof deck spaces for public gatherings. The permanent home for Playhouse on the Square and also used by Ballet Memphis, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Opera Memphis, and Concerts International.
The faceted wood balcony edge is designed to optimize acoustics, and are made out of locally-sourced hickory plywood.
This playhouse is one of the quietest assembly rooms around, with an NC-rating of 15, even with all mechanical systems on full blast.
The playhouse has a fly tower, manual rigging system, and trapped stage apron open to a large orchestra pit.
