Mixed-Use Complex - 2018

The project is a mixed-use complex located on King Abdul Aziz road in Al Madinah. The challenge was to achieve the client program requirements through a modern and unique design while taking in consideration the potential of the city as one of the most important Islamic tourism destinations.

The complex consists of 4 towers – hotel, offices and serviced apartments -, 3 commercial floors as a podium and 2 basement floors as a parking area. Three courts were integrated in the design of the complex to act as a public/open space for promenades and entertainment activities as it was concluded to be the main interest for the residents of the city. The design of the building is unique in its use of 3 sets of brick morphologies to form the panels of the elevations which represents local and traditional building method. The main concept was to integrate open, public and entertainment activities within the design of the complex to act as an attractor point for tourists and residents of the city achieving an optimum use for the facilities of the project. Also, creating a unique and modern design which takes in consideration environmental, functional and aesthetic values and mixes well with the surrounding context and the architectural identity of the building.

SCOPE: full coordinated architectural/interior and engineering designs from the pre-concept stage till the construction documents.
