A design for Hayman Boulevard and it vicinity in the town of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Within our thesis we tried to design with the natural dynamics of the ever changing barrier island as well as with the human demands on these islands. We have tried to gain interaction between these two seemingly different actors within the landscape and create a pleasant new environment.
Current Situation at Hayman Boulevard (Kitty Hawk, NC)
Development from a monotonous island with water/ocean fronts toward a vibrant and dynamic islandscape
With small interventions in the current situation, the island will be gradually transformed and the islanders will create a more diverse and attractive living environment
A wooden fence that enhances the landscape and creates a recreational network
A vibrant summer landscape
Gradual dune development, creates a safer and more attractive landscape
The other water edge at the 'sound' will develop into a robust marshland, which allows further development of the islands
