Whiteout – SWISS ALPS

Whiteout – SWISS ALPS
Whiteout, white-out, or milky weather is a weather condition in which the contours and landmarks in a snow-covered zone become almost indistinguishable.
(From Wikipedia)

All ski lifts at higher altitudes were closed due to strong winds from Storm Petra. We planned a change to a lower situated lift in the forest zone. For this we had to cover a distance with the skis on a winter hiking trail.
It didn't look that bad - at least at the beginning.
So let's go!
Some nasty gusts of wind on the ground …
… with a switch to a whiteout within seconds
Visibility is slowly improving again
Even in the forest the force of the wind gusts remains clearly visible (1/200 sec. / 24 mm).
Back in the valley there is no wind at all
Light snowfall at dusk with the church of Sent (Lower Engadine, Switzerland)
