Louisville Photo Biennial Posters
As part of the 2019 and 2021 Louisville Photo Biennials, student and faculty photographers were featured in three different exhibitions across Louisville and Southern Indiana. This is a collection of the posters and postcards I designed to advertise for the photography exhibitions. The posters used photos that were displayed in the exhibitions and featured color palettes and font choices that reflected the mood of the photo collections.

The first poster below is for a student exhibition entitle "Narrative" in which students created photos that told a story in a single frame. To make the poster feel cohesive, I centered the text vertically to mimic the position of the subject and fog and sampled the color for the title from the colors of the leaves.

The final poster in this series was designed for a dual-artist show featuring two photography instructors. Both artists produced a series of black and white photography featuring cities from their heritage. Because this was such a deeply personal project for them, I wanted to create a poster and postcard that reflected the clean black and white photography but also showed some of the personality of the artists. This poster and card was challenging because the dimensions were pre-determined and the artists wanted to include two square photographs with little to no cropping. I chose a minimal sans serif type face and featured the artworks side by side, creating a design reminiscent of European tiles, which reflected the content of the exhibition.

The next poster is for another student exhibition entitled "Stories Untold" in which students created photos that reflected their own stories and struggles. The photographers wanted a poster that felt classic but not old and reflected a calm and somber color palette to connect with the works that would be featured. I opted to go with a palette of muted gray-blues, which complimented the featured photo. I also paired a classic serif typeface with a more simplified sans serif to create a nostalgic yet modern feel.
The final poster featured here was for a student show called Obscura, wherein students photographed spooky, occult, supernatural, or odd scenes.
