Community Connection Project

Community Connection Handout Design
From 2018 - 2019, my department decided to work with a group of people who had an idea to create this coalition. In the Western Washington County area we have a lot of really great organizations that offer a lot of services for food, clothes, shelter, and stability. The pitch that this group of people had was that they wanted to make a coalition in order to have these services easily available to anyone who needs it.
Objectives and Deliverables
This project was a group effort as the objective of the class was to have experience with working as a development group and create the identity of this coalition from scratch. We pitched different themes, names, and ways to market this group to their intended audiences and to represent the founders of this group as well.

In the end, the clients chose the name Community Connection and the logo, colors, and fonts were all a collaborative effort among my class. After figuring out the coalitions identity, we decided to focus on the deliverables for our clients: Business cards, handout, Facebook, and a custom website made on Squarespace.

We all had a part on each of these deliverables but we were all told which deliverable we would be in charge of. I had the task on designing the handouts with another student later on in the process.
Version 1
A the time the client didn't know what dimensions they wanted at first so we started with a half sheet. The front has the information about the organization and what they stand for as well as their social media.
Front
Back
The back of the handout has the organizations and the icons next to each organization to represent what kind of service they provide. Early in the process we tried to use the icons and the colors to visually code our handout for accessibility.
Version 2
We decided to do 1/3 sized handouts and use the photography the organization owned and incorporate it into the next iteration of the design. We had a colored and black and white version made for the clients as well.

Back
The clients had added a lot more organizations than when we last saw them so we ended up trying out this column system to organize these groups. We had the icon, the color coded name of the organization, and the needed information to contact them.

However, we later then felt that this looked very cramped put together.
Official Handout
For the official design we swapped out the picture with an image that was recently taken by our team. We added the final information and social media needed to mark this handout as complete.

Back
For the back of the handout my classmate was able to organize the groups in a grid. Now the design looked properly aligned and still used our color coding idea with having the colors correspond to the colors of the icons.
Style and Maintenance Guide
For the maintenance guide was in charge of putting together the style sheet for the organization to refer to when we handed it off. I organized the guide similar to our hand outs to have some continuity.
