Study of Form and shape

Introduction:

This assignment was my very first project given to me in my form and design class by my professor Sheeraz Wania. It was called the study of form, and in it we were tasked with applying various combinations of point and line to recreate structural shapes within an existing image that we have selected.

Materials

-Hot press board
-Exacto knife
-ruler
-glue
-fine tip sharpie
-wide tip sharpie
-Tracing paper
-10x11 sheet paper
-pencils
-Bristle board

Creative process

In the process of selecting my image i went through several works with very detailed line work in order to challenge myself with a more complicated composition. i found several different picture of reptiles which would be the best for line work because of the details on the scales. i settled on an image of a gecko(As seen below) and decided to create several different explorations in order to create my final product.

Workflow

started with Basic line outline on my tracing paper

after this was complete I shaded above the design so i could trace it onto my bristle board
After I made an outline with my sharpie so the lines and boundaries were more visible

after completing my design in pencil i went over it in ink and etched in scales and made the lines with a ruler
finally i cut off the excess bristle board with an exacto knife and glued it on to my hot press board for my final product

Conclusion

This was a very fun to  create and i enjoyed the process thoroughly. I learned a lot from this project and i am grateful for the experience.
