Inventive and irreverent, Frank Gehry has been surrounded by controversy for most of his career. Using unorthodox materials like corrugated metal and chain link, Gehry creates unexpected, twisted forms that break conventions of architectural design. His work has been called radical, playful, organic, and sensual. Much of Gehry’s work falls within the style of Deconstructivism, which is often referred to as post-structuralist in nature for its ability to go beyond current modalities of structural definition.

I wanted to create a poster that has the same quality and ideas of his architectural designs.

The denotative poster conveys the information of Frank Gehry’s biographical and architectural traits. Klavika was chosen as the typeface to portray the idea behind reason why he uses materials that creates unexpected forms that breaks the conventions of his designs.

The connotative poster conveys the idea of Gehry using unusual materials like metal that creates a rough texture and rigidness through out his building designs. I wanted to create a similar idea, so I used foil to create Frank Gehry’s name that would represent the rough rigidness of his buildings. I also wanted to emphasize distortion through the use and layout of the text.
