Photos taken at 10x, 20x and 50x magnifications on a Leica optical microscope of cast aluminum alloy and as-received stainless steel. Images were taken to highlight microstructure characteristics that indicate how each metal was processed. Dendrite, eutectic, and equiaxed formations are prevalent in the aluminum while dark martensite phases are present in the steel.
