Climate Action Night

Climate Action Night
A journey towards the right poster.
This was my initial take on Climate Action Night. The first image wasn't "social justice" enough for the client. I added the protest image and it still didn't speak to them at all. They were not content.
I believed that these sharp angles and bold colors above would be very perfect for a rallying event like Climate Action Night. They are straight-forward and eye catching—perfect for stickers and all the merchandise necessary for starting movements. The little doodle at the end keeps it youthful too, keeping it attractive to the target audience that these graphics serve.
"TOO ANGRY."
This first image was my next attempt at an increasingly social justice theme. I drew a feminine individual with a bull horn to give it an obvious protesting feel, but my client reminded me of Dianne Feinstein's unpleasant interaction with school kids and we didn't want to evoke that. The second image shows an improvement with friendlier colors, as well as friendlier face.
The second image is easier on the eyes, more interesting to look at, and has a much more obvious message.
Aesthetically, I still prefer the initial take (with the blue, orange and red), but I understand why it was necessary to be clearer with the message.
