Donald's Ratites (2017)

Title: "Donald's Ratites"

Measurements: 40 cm in diameter (outer framing canvas) and 30 cm in diametre (inner canvas)
This composition is weightily swayed by J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" a double-stepping doom through the rakish wanton world affairs, leaping off a cliff to overlook public outcries, human and animal rights violations as well as the disdained rape of Mother nature. The music sheet visible on the outer edge of the canvas helps juxtapose the leader of the Blue, Red and White nation to Mikey Mouse as the mage's assistant in Fantasia (1940), who desirous of endowment and recognition, makes an entropic stew out of the workshop, or in this case, the oyster we all inhabit.
Surrounded by an air of guileful news to shroud an orchestra of white supremacy ultras dancing to a macabre end, a death marching band in vain concert spins ignorance and twirly philanders with corporate greed.
The apathy for climate change, bordering on criminal, and the constant terrestrial harassment is captured and catapulted with the depiction of the Paris agreement broken in oblivion over constrained signed palabra instead of an understanding of cause-effect and apprehension for the environment. This was the first straw before withdrawing catastrophe relief funds in which nature's karma responded in kind with devastating queued hurricanes. Antagonising and enforcing rule over other cultures and territories will only bring more armageddons and disaster after calamity. Just as there could be a correlation between subterranean hydrogen bomb trials leading to an increased formation of typhoons, hurricanes or even tsunamis along with tectonic displacement, seismic activity or fault shifts. 
To personalise this attitude IBK employs another iconic character from the film, the ostrich’s influences in the soviet east as well as his trade connections in China seem to only further this unfathomable chaos and lack of legislative cohesion while his imperious and clueless subordinates stick their head in the sand in face of back dealings.​​​​​​​

The response by the Ratite flock was to deny rising sea level theories to revoke federal flood-risk standards already in place. Climate concerns were put aside to make way for energy and fossil fuel auctions, scrapping clean power and surveyed carbon emissions along with cutting studies of health risks to residents who live near mountaintop removal coal mine sites (i.e. Appalachian Mountains).

Lastly, the background transgression and dehumanisation of Yellowstone with a pipeline merely parades another face of our corrupt coin which spins to our pending doom. As a nebulous lurid shadow of Pandora's box flowing into Yellowstone River, a 50.000 gallon oil spill was thought to have been contained with ice covering most of the water however leaks of the environmental disaster failed to be corked. Civil servants claimed to be "unaware" these events posed a threat to public safety and its wellbeing although noted reports of residents tasting the buttery crude in their drinking water were brought forward, the city water plant had stopped drawing water from Yellowstone and truckloads of water were being distributed among local residents of Glendive to avoid the consumption of attested high levels of hydrocarbons in the water supply. 
Crossing the painting like a half broken horizon the channel of crude shallows evokes the Dakota Access pipeline bringing forth a dissolute coup de grâce for nature and its fauna as well as the dozens of dead fish being recoded since the prompted shutdown after multiple protests, open letters submitted by celebrities like Mark Ruffalo, and signed petitions.
The oil and orchestrated chaos is but a mirror of ourselves, drumming to stringed harps and pedalling organs sounds of the violoncello conducted by Johan Sebastian Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. The soundtrack to the eternal past battle fought in the present for a better future.
