Promoting ecological shopping

Empowering customers to make enlighened shopping decisions
This was a project in my Interaction Design Master at Chalmers University of Technology. The assignment was to "make a superior market" - a very broad description that we were supposed to give meaning to ourselfes. 
I wanted to find a way to give the customer the information he or she needs when it is needed, thereby empowering the customer to make good personal choices regarding price, nutritional data, ecologically friendly products and products that don't have bad social impacts.  I also wanted to minimize the time it takes to do the shopping.
I used touchscreens mounted on trolleys to give the customer enhanced information so he or she can get things done more quickly and effeciently.

Information about a product is displayed when it is scannd by the hand scanner and competing brands will be displayed and compared with the selected product. In the image below "Bananas Ecuador"  is scanned and compared to Chiquita and Fyffes bananas with respect to price,  ecological and fairness. 
A map of the supermarket is displayed and an optimized route through the store given a shopping list is calculated. Present position and the position of the next item on the shopping list is visualized.
