A Simple Present is a personal project I worked on in the summer of 2019. I try to lose fear of the pencil and the paper and the lines – my lines. I try to draw what I know, sometimes what is in front of me now, sometimes things from memory from 30 years ago.
Drawing something creates a moment of focus and attention. Observing or remembering details allows me to be simply present. And even though this moment will pass and a memory may fade, the drawing stays as a simple present.
These images were drawn with pencil on paper. Then I photographed them and colored them in procreate on an iPad.
