Without Computer Exhibition

Without Computer
Exhibition Concept

Without Computer, We Think Deeper.
"Without computer" means that we reduce the use of computer throughout
the design process, finding the unexpected and irreplaceable sparks of beauty. We want  to examine that "brain" plays much more important role than "computer" in design.

Turn on Your Mind Before Computer
With the rapid development of computer, we use much software to draw, typeset, and model. After reflecting ourselves, we find that we rely too much on them. Sometimes we rush to computers and start designing without thinking thoroughly. On the other hand, Social networking and platforms for design spring up nowadays, which makes it easy to search information. We can get hundreds of similar pictures just by typing one keyword. The swift data transmission also results in the restricted common value of visual style.
Can we call ourselves designers only because we can use software correctly?
What is the essence of design if software no longer exists?

Intro
Exhibition concept include four levels : UNPLUGGED, NATURALLY, SENSES, WITH. As the prologue of the exhibition, the curatorial team presented six installation arts to elaborate the concept.

UNPLUGGED  Sense Of Salary, TOOOOT
Computer software has offered us many simple solutions to complicated cases without doubt. However, while we are enjoying the convenience and efficiency it had brought to us, we cast behind the true meaning of every function.
If we could strip away the appearance of the computer, trace its function to its roots, we will discover that every step of simplification is the result of interaction
of different disciplinary ways of seeing things.
Drawing master (left)
The drawing functions which belong to computer software is materialized, and through interacting with the device, it emphasizes that all working process for better refinement were the true value of every creation.

Computer? (right)
When the process of creation is defined, it limits the boundaries of thinking. Think outside the “box” if you can, and review what creativity should be like in your mind.

The alluring unique patterns created by Mother Nature are the initial form of beauty. The force of nature was the twist to our design, and by capturing the profoundness of changing nature, we’re aim to unveil the unpredicted creativity of design.
GOLDEN RATIO IN NATURE
French sculptor Auguste Rodin once said, “Beauty is everywhere. It is not that she is lacking to our eye, but our eyes which fail to perceive her.” This area is meant to let audiences to see things in special ways and experience the surprising outcomes we get by “peeking and discovering”.

The cold answers we get from the calculation of the computer have none of the soft emotion that belongs to humanity. The most unknown and complicated reaction are happening right in our brains. The chaotic emotions, the shattered memories of the past, the colorful disconnected feelings are all twisted together to bring this extraordinary outcome of imagination to light.
BETWEEN 1 AND 0
The computer has limiting rules and certain calculations to follow, while the brain can think outside the box, and discover the unlimited ideas within the limited resources.

We humans are defined as “fundamental individuals”. We have our ways of thinking. We may end up walking in different paces even we are walking along the same path.
We are not cold metal gears spinning reluctantly. We are, in fact, cells that can’t stop exchanging electric pulses and nutrition. The variety ways of interacting and collision are the saviors for the brains of creativity.
MY CHOPSTICKS ARE TOO LONG, HELP ME PLZ (left)
Take a seat, help yourself. How would it be possible to eat with those chopsticks? Only if you decide to give someone a helping hand and wait for someone to give you one. Whether to starve or get fed, it’s totally up to you.

Neither the apathetic urban people nor the indifferent technology exists in front of the door. Open one and start interacting with others.
