Proposal for a more efficient temporary Student Union located within Spanky Van Dykes, Nottingham. At present this is providing a facility predominantly for students to meet up, but fails to provide the broad range of facilities that the student union did previously. Improving the site by incorporating a number of spaces that will work together to provide a much more cohesive experience both for the staff and user of the facility.

The new space does not affect the main use of the ground floor area as a bar but converts the less used function room on the first floor into the temporary student union with its own separate entrance. Offering a social space with free Wi-Fi and private seating areas, an advice centre, information point, S.U. shop and staff office.
The design takes into consideration the large windows within the original building and uses the natural light source with a range of translucent walls to guide one around the different areas.

This building has a particular architectural history, once used as a theatre, any additions and changes are seen as temporary. Once the new student union building has opened the space will revert back to purely being a bar.
