This project involved the georectification of historic Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps and the placement of the historic facilties onto current aerial photography with the Proposed re-alignment of I-25 shown to indicate possible impacts to historic structures.

Below is a sample of a Sanborn Fire Insurance Map.  Reference points needed to be established between the map and current physical locations.  The resulting georectification allows a greater understanding of the location of the now demolished facilities within the physical environment today.

The
Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps were georectified and inserted into a GIS project.  This is an example of showing the colored Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps.  From this information, details about the facilities can be extracted.

This is a detail showing the location of the Blende Smelter that was extraced from the
Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps.  Based on remote sensing and site visits, the placement of the building footprints is likely better than 1 meter of accuracy.
