COMMUNITY USE OF THE BENUE RIVER AT JIMETA

The Benue River is an active, multi-functional resource for the people of Yola and Jimeta in southeastern Nigeria.  A bedrock outcrop at the region's main river crossing
is an optimal site for the city's new water intake infrastructure.

The site currently serves as the community's major interface with the river.
The gentle bank slopes, rocky surface and proximity to the main paved access path
attract diverse uses of the riverfront, many of which conflict with the siting,
water quality and safety requirements of the water intakes.

RIVERFRONT DESIGN FOR WATER AND COMMUNITY
Investment in riverfront design can support
clean water infrastructure and enhance community resources.
