TB - National Portrait Gallery Visit

The National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is an art gallery in London housing a collection of portraits of historically important and famous British people. It was the first portrait gallery in the world when it opened in 1856.

I visited the National Portrait Gallery recently. I saw the Taylor Wessing Exhibit and a few other shows that were running at the time.
The Taylor Wessing Exhibition was really interesting as there was so many different types of portraits that were entered into the competition.

One of my favourite entries was a portrait of a child who had survived the Grenfell Tower fire back in 2017 by Richard Ansett. He was one of five children to actually survive the fire. The simplicity of the photo with just Danel's face being illuminated whilst surrounded by darkness symbolises the way he must have felt stuck in that burning building and I felt that this was a really powerful message.
Another Exhibit that I enjoyed was the Power Shakers. I thought that the stories behind all of the portrait were really interesting and also the way that the portraits were presented were new and inventive.
For Example one of the portraits moved as you moved so you were able to see more than one portrait in the same frame which is something that I hadn't seen on such a large scale before.
