Urban furniture     |     2018     |     Competition

Romi is a project designed for Urban Stone Contest, a competition sponsored by Consorzio Lapideo Co.Ge.Ser and the start up T.R.I.P. -Techniques Recovery Innovative Printable- Partner, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trani. The goal of the contest was to design a 3D printed urban furniture module made of marble dust, recycling the waste generated by the production processes of the stone industry.
Romi takes inspiration from the stone of Trani, because of its widespread use for the construction of religious buildings in Romanesque style. For this reason, I decided to consider the key elements of this architectural style (sloping façade, arched windows and pilasters) to create a simple and minimal design. Romi adapts to different contexts and environments, with solid shapes that refer to the monumentality of marble.
The strengths of Romi are the multifunctionality (seat, ornamental vase and bike rack - by joining several modules) and the possibility to assemble the modules differently. The decoration on the back of the module, which allows you to connect more modules in a triangular disposition, recalls the pilasters of the Romanesque architecture, in the same way that the front support of the seat, composed of two semi-mirrored arches joined to the base, reminds to the windows of the churches when the blocks are aligned.
