kana + koniaq offices | exterior & interior signage design
This building is a new shared office for Koniaq Incorporated and KANA (Kodiak Alaksa Native Association) in Kodiak, Alaska. Kodiak gets very sever winds during the winter months creating snow storms that are difficult to navigate, therefore, the exterior building sign was designed as a beacon for drivers visiting the building. The interior signs took on two distinct yet related identities: blue for Koniaq Inc. and green for KANA.
The artwork of native Alutiiq Indian artist Helen Simenoff was integrated throughout the interior of the building. Some of her petroglyphs were used as icons for both the exterior building sign and various interior signs.
