Typographic Anatomy

Stempel Garamond and Neue Haas Grotesk
I am currently a graphic design student taking a typography class. The assignment was to create two compositions that reflected how I thought the font would best be represented in a design by thinking about each glyph as just that, a  shape, instead of a letter with meaning. The purpose of these two designs was to experiment with serif and san serif font, creating variations, and understanding typographic anatomy. There was a requirement to use at least two white letters, two black letters, and not exceed 8 glyphs.
I definitely liked working with serifs more because I feel like they have a bit more to offer as far as shapes and small details go. Each glyph in this particular design is connected in some way to the other and I tried to make it as fluid as possible to make it seem seamless and reflect the elegant anatomy that Stempel has.
A little bit more difficult to work with, but I believe represents the boldness that is Neue Haas Grotesk. I tried to keep the alignment through the bowl of the nine, but also give a hint of sass and audaciousness of the Neue Haas font by using the 'a' and keeping white space around it.
