It was a long road for this project to win first place in the department of energy’s race to zero competition, but this project made it. As the capstone project for senior year, we worked with Habitat for Humanity to create a new affordable home template. Under a close examination of systems and energy modeling we were able to create a entirely passive project that met the standards of affordable housing. Utilizing federal and local grants, we were able to come in below budget and afford the applicable technology systems that makes this take on the conventional Philadelphia row home completely off the grid. Traveling to Denver Colorado, we competed in this national tournament to bring home first place. We won due to our ability to make an affordable template for habitat for humanity that is currently being utilized in North Philadelphia.
