Yavapai Food Council was a 501c3 non-profit that was based in Yavapai County, Arizona. There were four main programs built around feeding hungry people, mainly kids. This was my first experience working with non-profits and I learned a lot throughout the process.
WORKING WITH NONPROFITS
Two Unique Challenges that Present Themselves When Working with Nonprofits:
1. Some nonprofits, especially those dealing with hunger and poverty, work with people who are protected because of their situation; they're called "protected populations." This usually means no names and no faces without a release or on-camera permission. It's hard to tell stories about people when you can't show their faces or their names... I used photos of the volunteers and behind the scenes processes to create the feeling of being an inside on our digital platforms.

2. Nonprofits are often on tight budget with both time and resources. When your trying to solve world hunger, or even local hunger, no one has time to stop, redo anything, or wait to make things perfect. It is fast and it is raw, and it has made me a better filmmaker.
Over the last year, I have had the privilege of working with some of the most caring dedicated volunteers, community partners, and recipients. I have learned so much and love looking back on the work we've made together.
THE BOUNTIFUL KITCHEN
The Bountiful Kitchen is a social enterprise that was started by the Yavapai Food Council. It was my first introduction to the social entrepreneurship, something that has become really important to me.

The kitchen served over 80,000 meals per semester and ran volunteers and one paid employee. Meals were served across the county to charter schools with high hunger rates but for whatever reason weren't able to serve lunch. These students were going to school hungry and weren't being served lunch.
Video shot on a Canon Rebel T5 and edited on Adobe Premiere.
