Mae Bradshaw's profile

Monograph - Neil Barrett

Brief:

For this brief, I was asked to create a monograph in the style of editorial design. This monograph could be a designer/artist that I found interesting. This designer was not to be from a graphic design background. Included had to be images of my own as well as research, an interview with the chosen individual and visual language that communicated the personality of the individual.

Concept:

I have chosen the work of Neil Barrett, a fashion designer that produces high end clothing of a monochromatic and highly graphical style. He is not a graphic designer but his work features striking vector like prints, contrasted in black and white, which makes some individual pieces. Because of this, the design of my monograph focuses on these patterns and I complimented them by using thick lines and simple bold accents. With my interview, I have chosen to spread it over a few pages, 'floating' the text across the page to create a playfulness to the text.
I also printed the front cover on black paper creating an almost hidden title contrasting with the bold inside.
The wrap was an image of the texture of the clothing, giving an insight into the content.
I have chosen to add some of my own patterns inside that aren't just printed. My own adaptation of his patterns created texture within the monograph and added to the overall playfulness of the visual language.
