Bolivian Stoves Project

Bolivia is one of the poorest countries in South America with about 70% of the population living under the poverty line and has one of the highest infant mortality rates, 67 infant deaths per 1,000 according to UNICEF. The traditional way of cooking in Bolivia is a huge contributor to health and environmental concerns. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that indoor air pollution caused by open pit cooking fires ranks fourth as a health risk in developing countries.

Developing a higher efficiency stove is one intervention that not only aims to minimize these risks, but also works to reduce the overall poverty structure.
