Week 6 - Light & Scale

DXB202. Week Six, Image One. #Oneperday2017
This week we are experimenting with light and scale, the first area I am going to explore is micro-photography and plants. I am unsure the specific flower that was used in this photo, but one thing I loved about it was its interesting anthers, they look almost like fish eggs.
This image was created with a Nikon D3300 - Focus 8 - Exposure 1/800, and I just cropped the image slightly to create a better frame for the subject.

This second image is from the same flower used in image one, however this young bud is yet to bloom. It was a blistering hot sunny day, and I needed to diffuse the light slightly, I successfully managed to tone down the harshness with some tissues. I decided that I wanted the flower to be the focal point and nothing else, by enhancing the focus, I was able to blur the background and create a lovely image.
This image was taken with the Nikon D3300 - Focus 8 - Exposure 1/400

Critique - I had thoughts of cropping and zooming in on the image, because there is some unique textures and hair, but I like the left of centre focus and the vibrant light that brings out the strong oranges against the blurred green background.

A day at the beach I couldn't resist the sunsetting and thinking about the amazing light, and how it works well for this weeks theme. I wanted to create a wide open space and focus on the entire scene, giving it a grander feel then focusing on something specific, like the seagull.
This was taken with an Olympus tough using an auto setting - Focus 3.3 - Exposure 1/160

Critique - Unfortunately I didn't have a decent camera with me and had to take my travel camera, which doesn't create very crips images, noticeable in the clouds which look almost painted. Sometimes this does create an interesting style, but I can't imagine how much better this image could have been with the Nikon or Canon.
DXB202. Week Six, Image Four. #Oneperday2017
I wanted to play with scale in exaggerated ways, instead of the usual panorama going horizontal, I wanted to showcase the height of this magnificent waterfall. This image was taken at Perling Brook Falls, Springbrook, Gold Coast, using my iPhone 5.

Critique - Unfortunately because of the device I used (iPhone) and the way it stitches panoramas, some detail has been lost, but I think I have pulled of the scale and created an interesting image.

I have an obsessions with nature and couldn't stop from uploading this panorama that gives a real breadth of scale and wonder. This was taken at a lookout in Springbrook National Park, but unlike the previous where I experimented with a vertical pan, I used the normal horizontal panorama. The sky cleared up and I was able to quite the shot that showed the vast bushland and even gradients in the sky. This photo was taken using my iPhone 5.

Critique - unfortunately I didn't notice after taking the photo that it didn't properly stitch at the bottom, however I am still happy with the scale and lighting.
