Week 7: Light & Scale
Image 26: Green Car

Technique:  iPhone 6s Plus, Aperture f/2.2, ISO -25

Process/Reasoning: I took this image during class, I used a toy car and stuck tiny trees into the footpath to look as if they were coming from the ground. I was trying to make a scene where it looked like the footpath could be the road and the car was parked. To create the image of being at the same level as the car, I simply got down to the ground and took the photo as low as possible. I edited this image on VSCO Cam using the G3 filter, brightening the image by 1, sharpening it and adding clarity for the dark shadowing.

Reflection: I like this photo of the micro scene, though I think I could have got down even further to take the photo so that it was eye level for the 'little people'. I should have also focused my camera more on the car for a clearer image.
Image 27: Lady on the Step

Technique: iPhone 6s Plus, Aperture f/2.2, ISO -25

Process/Reasoning: To me this lady is sitting on a step/ledge by a river or lake, I added the man in the background to show scale in the scene. To capture this image I got down on a low angle looking at eye level to a concrete slab by the road. The sun was hitting the top of the slab giving the image a nice effect with the shadows coming down from the figure. I edited the image in VSCO Cam using HB2, I increased the clarity which increased the shadows on the image.

Reflection: I like how this image turned out, with interesting sunlight and shadow. To me, the fact that this photo was taken on my iPhone is cool because it's so clear and look like it could have been taken on a more professional/digital camera.
Image 28: Micro Building

Technique: iPhone 6s Plus

Process/Reasoning: For this image I used an old model of mine that I had made in my second year of uni. I then printed out small people and stood them in my model to make my model look as if it were a building or sculptural type structure. I placed this on my lawn making it look like it's in a park of a field. To capture this image at this scale I angled my camera low and close to the model so that it looks like the camera is almost in the model. I edit this image on VSCO Cam using HB 2, I increased the clarity to again, increase the shapes of the shadows.

Reflection: I enjoyed taking this photo as it was creative and interactive. I love how the sun enters the model and hits the outside of it. I also like how the window type shapes show the outside/grass and it looks as though the people are looking out at the view.
Image 29: Light Painting

Technique: Canon EOS 700D, ISO-100, f/11, Exposure time 13sec.

Process/Reasoning: I captured this image in class as it was an opportunity to use the professional camera that changes settings as I usually use my iPhone. To capture this image I had help from a classmate, she got behind the camera to take it and I attempted to write my initials using the torch on my phone. I then took the image into Photoshop and adjusted the brightness, made it black and white, but the adjusted the colour balance to give it the blue/purple tinge.

Reflection: This was the first time I had ever attempted doing light painting, as you can probably tell. I found it fun and interesting how you can change settings on the camera to take a long shot. I think to improve this photo next time I could practice lighting painting more beforehand.
Image 30: Light up the night

Technique: iPhone 6s Plus, ISO 23

Process/Reasoning: Last night I was sitting at Georges Paragon in Sanctuary Cove, the restaurant ceiling is always covered with fairy lights so I thought I would take the opportunity to take some really cool photos. To capture this photo I used the camera on VSCO Cam, this allows me to change the ISO (to 23) so that the light drags across the room, I then edited this image very slightly using A6.

Reflection: I love lots of things about this photo; the colours, the form, the creativity and the uniqueness. I love how the colour/lights are pulled through the photo. I also am happy I realised that I could change the settings on my camera through the VSCO app. I added an extra light photo under this one as I loved both images I captured that night.
Extra Image: Light up the Night #2

Technique: VSCO Cam, iPhone 6s Plus, ISO 23

Process/Reasoning: This image was inspired by the Bokeh lighting technique; this is the quality of the blur that is produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. So for this image I used the VSCO Cam app to take the picture of the lights at the restaurant, I used a low ISO speed and made sure that I did not focus the camera. The lights then made the circle shape, this created a cool effect as all of the circles clustered together forming a group of coloured lights.

Reflection: I liked this image as much as I liked the previous one so I had to post them both. I love that the image is out of focus because the effect of Bokeh lighting is something that I have always really liked the look of. I love how the lights form to make the circle shape and how they layer each other. Next time I would love to work with different types of lights and lots of different colours, such as a cityscape or highway.
