Week 7 | Light + Scale

Light + Scale
Image 28: Rainbow Dance
#oneperday
Technique: Photography -iPhone 6S
Process: Simple photography
Reasoning: I think rainbows are the most interesting form of natural light. I didn't feel the need to edit this image as the colour is already quite vivid.
Reflection: I love that I was able to capture this image.
Image 29: Eagle St fig

Technique: Photography -iPhone 6S + Photoshop
Process: I embedded this image into Photoshop with a black background and then used the 'camera raw filter' to increase the blacks and highlights, as well as the clarity of the image. I then used the brush tool in black, on a 60% opacity to black out the background lights in the photo.
Reasoning: The reason I made those adjustments to the image was to ensure that the background was successfully blacked out while the fairy lights on the fig tree really popped and were the central focus.
Reflection: Though I feel like I edited this image successfully, I feel that it would've been cool if I could have photoshopped more fairy lights into the tree. Though maybe the way they trickle away off the stems, is the magical part of this image?
Image 30: Luminous

Technique: Photography -iPhone 6S + Photoshop
Process: The process was rather easy, as Anthony said; "get as much as you can correct in camera" and I feel that's what went right with this photo. I captured this image on my iPhone 6S and then used Photoshop to blacken the edges further. I took this image in a very dark room and just had the fairy lights as the main lighting.
Reasoning: I wanted to play with light sources - I had experimented with candles, matches, lighters and thought fairy lights would be a more tame light source to photograph. I didn't feel the need to touch this image up as the light was dispersed evenly around my hands.
Reflection: I like how the photo was almost perfect in the first place and how the light evenly glows around the edge of their hands.
Image 31: Linear
#oneperday
Technique: Photography -iPhone 6S + Photoshop
Process: I took this photo in a dark room to allow for control of light and shadow. I used a torch for the light and used a piece of paper with cut outs for the shadow. I embedded the photo into Photoshop where I used a black and white filter and then used the brush tool in black on a 15% opacity to darken around the edges.
Reasoning: I found a photo on Pinterest that I found interesting and thought would be fun to use as inspiration to play with light and shadow. I put a black and white filter on the photo and darkened the edges to create further focus on the light and the dark - rather than the subjects skin colour, or what she was wearing or what was in the background, etc.
Reflection: I think this image worked out pretty well - after many attempts of it working not so well. I love that the light is on the subjects long eyelashes (which I also extended using the clone tool).
Image 32: Doggo Slide
#oneperday
Technique: Photography -iPhone 6S + Photoshop
Process: I took a photo of my dog, Boris, sleeping with his tongue out and combined that with an image of my roommate, Paxton, pretending to slide down the stairs. I removed the background in Paxton's image and under-saturated the image and then scaled Paxton down to a size that I thought was suitable to scale onto Boris' tongue.
Reasoning: I wanted to play with scale for this week but didn't have any figurines or small trees/cars,etc to experiment with so I thought I will use what I have around me and scale it down on Photoshop.
Reflection: I think this image is really playful and humorous. I think Paxton did a really good job of pretending she is going down a slide - which really assists with the humour of the image.
