McGraw-Hill Education: Higher Education New Event Symposium App

THE CHALLENGE:
McGraw-Hill Education makes learning tools for students ranging from pre-kindergartners to post-graduates. Each year new products are on full display at the hundreds of symposiums, where company representatives show thousands of educators how to incorporate MHE products into their own curricula. Each symposium is filled with featured speakers, small-group sessions and lots of other learning opportunities. Attendees can get overwhelmed trying to do it all.
OUR SOLUTION:
At Drum, we recognized a need to keep event-goers informed of all the on-goings and discussed the launching an event-specific mobile application. Within a tight timeline, we partnered and began a deep examination of user-flows, mapping out an ideal conference app framework. We discussed furnishing guests with all the pertinent event information including agendas, speaker profiles, live updates, social media connections and downloadable files.
Addressing a key content challenge, we designed a completely custom content management system (CMS) that could be easily updated by MHE employees for each event. As a framework for future additions and build-out, the CMS offers a robust way to keep event attendees updated in real-time and for administrators to adjust content on-the-fly.
THE RESULTS?
• Desktop, iOS application and Android application
• Successfully built initial website in 30 business days; with several phased launches over the next two years
• Over 90% of event attendees interacted with the app during their first symposium
• A cascading, agile process allowed for simultaneous user experience and creative design, along with concurrent development
