Being limited for time can be a benefit and a curse, I hate not being able to finish an image but I like solving problems and finding effective solutions. In this example I was very aware that I would not have the time to prep, light, render and post-produce a photo-real image with more than one vehicle (which was the brief) so I tried to find a fun if not gimmicky way around it. I found my excuse in die-cast models and was able to turn this image around in an hour plus render time.
How to cheat scale:
1 - Remove all parts deemed too detailed e.g. grills, windscreen wipers etc.
2 - Group and shrink moving parts to increase the panel gaps, in this case the doors and bonnet.
3 - Large radius rounded edges on everything
4 - Large orange peel
A few additional touches including brake disks that do not spin when the wheels do and plastic tyres help with the illusion.
I built the ramp using a straight piece and a number of bend deformers, heavy subsurface scattering on the shader.
I roughly built a table to match some in the HDRI (3 cubes).
Heavy depth of field to simulate a macro lens and hide sins.
Hope you like it.
