The Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalucia, Spain dating back to 889AD. It was substantially rebuilt by one of the last Muslim Moorish emirs in the 13th century. Moorish poets described it as "a pearl set in emeralds," an allusion to the colour of its buildings and the woods around them. After Christians replaced Moors it became a royal palace. It is one of Spain's major tourist attractions and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
