Emilio Longoria holds a bachelor of arts in history from Rice University and a JD from the University of Texas School of Law. A Texas native, Emilio Longoria follows many of the state’s professional sports teams, including the Houston Rockets.
Dedicated to supporting its community, the Houston Rockets maintains several programs divided into the categories of grassroots outreach, education, and grassroots basketball. Through its grassroots basketball programs, the team provides Houston youth with opportunities and resources to play basketball. The program’s activities range from hosting clinics and leagues to providing support to athletic programs at high schools. The Rockets’ grassroots basketball efforts include the Best Shot and Jr. Rockets programs.
Through Best Shot, members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston have the chance to experience cultural awareness, drug prevention, and tutoring workshops. These workshops use basketball as an incentive and require participants to attend educational activities each week before they can play in league games. Best Shot runs for 10 weeks and is an after-school program.
Meanwhile, the Jr. Rockets program develops a lifelong passion for basketball among youth in Houston and supports leagues and programs that make the sport fun. Leagues that participate in the program receive a game ticket and league jersey after registering with Jr. Rockets.
