We were asked to develop a design system for Kid O, a line of children's toys founded on the principles of Modernist toy design and progressive education. Our approach built upon the open-ended nature of play with illustrations that emphasized the creative possibilities inherent in abstract forms – blocks become buildings, and puzzle pieces become flowers. Embracing Bauhaus ideals of simplicity and honesty in materials, the print and packaging design followed a clean, clear, systematic visual system. As part of the design system we created tools to elaborate abstract concepts like sorting, counting, and pattern recognition. Our designs include toy packaging, retail packaging, product literature and communication materials.
