Ft. Lauderdale Beach Wayfinding Proposal

About Fort Lauderdale Beach
Fort Lauderdale Beach established itself as a world-class international business center and one of the most desirable locations for new, expanding or relocating businesses. Once known strictly as a tourism-based economy, Fort Lauderdale beach now supports a diverse range of industries, including restaurants, bars, hotels, parks, museums and galleries.
Design Objectives
The competitors of Fort Lauderdale Beach are beaches within 25 miles. The main competitors are Deer eld beach, Hollywood beach, and South beach in Miami. These main competitors offer more of a modern style and consistency throughout their designs.

-To create a systematic guide to help patrons and the attractions offered.
-To create brand consistency throughout.
-Produce a modern design, but still keep the traditional look established.
-Represent the history of the beach throughout the design.
Strategy
In our wayfinding strategy for Fort Lauderdale Beach we are using the concept of Districts to break such a large area into zones to help Patrons better locate their destinations. In this strategy we can break districts into smaller areas and offer guidance for the smaller zones while still providing directions to other areas.
Brand Building
Wayfinding and environmental graphics are design tools that can be used to create or enhance a brand. Color, type, voice, graphics and form all work together to create a unique language that identifies a place and makes it memorable.
Primary Monument Design
Our design strives to unify FLB’s rich history and innovations of it’s future. The monument draws its inspiration from FLB’s distinctive turtle conservations, emphasizing the sand and surf which nurtures them; drawing them continually,
to FLB’s beaches. As unique as the life created on FLB’s shores, the monument emulates organic forms while also paralleling FLB’s signature wave patterns. Staying true to our emphasis on modern design, the monument boasts FLB’s most iconic destinations, creating an easily accessible map to users. Not only memorable, the monument maintains its functionality, doubling as a shaded walkway for visitors to take pictures, seek cover from the sun and relax. Our branding strategy provides the ultimate interactive and iconic figure for FLB social media.
Secondary Entry Identification Signage
Complimentary to our first monument, the secondary monument serves as an entrance and exit marker to FLB. This monumen mimics the shape of the first monument. Featuring the same in-ground lights to accommodate tourists and turtles.
Directional signage
Directional signage methodologies function as the key features for our brand strategy. The directional pillars feature arrows on the top of the pillar to tell viewers of their relative location to the attraction. Furthermore, the pillar presents the district icon and color emphasizing their location.
Signage Design
The aluminum directional pillar features the signature wave pattern, as well as a stone base to add to the traditional feel of the beach. The name of the location is produced in the FLB primary typeface Copperplate to create consistency through brand recognition. The pillars also feature a directional light to further add to the visibility of the signage in nighttime situations, as well as a in-ground light to not disturb the nesting habitat of the turtles.
Sign Locations
Attraction Signage Location:
1. Fort Lauderdale Beach Park (South Entrance)
2. Fort Lauderdale Beach Park (North Entrance)
3. DC Alexander Park
4. Aquatic Center
5. Beach Place
6. Bonnet House
7. Birch Park
Orientation Signage
To help visitors find there location among the beach, FLB will provide a "I am here" kiosk. This kiosk will provide an overall map of FLB showcasing the districts, as well as an in-depth description of the district in which they are located. The aluminum Kiosk also features the FLB wave pattern and boasts a stone foundation.
Nighttime Sign Design
The FLB "You are here" kiosk presents a ground light for night time settings. This embedded ground light provides visibility to patrons while allowing the turtle nesting habitat to remain undisturbed.
