Phoenix Mountains Preservation Council
This project for our Graphic Design class had us find a non-profit that had a graphic design setup that was improvable. We decided to look for non-profits that were surrounding the theme of environmental protection. We eventually found a local group called the Phoenix Mountains Preservation Council. Their logo and general graphic design was abysmal and we knew we would be able to drastically improve their brand image. We wanted to make sure we had themes of the desert and colors of the desert. This can be seen in some of the design choices we made. We began by looking at their current logo.
These are images of their previous logo and website.
This is some of our preprocess, brainstorming, and thumbnail sketches about what kind of logo we could make.
These are images of our roughs and our logo design.
These were to two roughs we ended up with. We decided to actually use them both but in different ways.
A lot of our inspiration came from many different logos we saw around the internet. This Behance Collection includes some of our inspiration.
Our inspiration took us towards a direction into an image of mountains with text underneath. We did not love having a square so we tried to make a patch and turn it into a circle. This worked well and we went off that idea to end up with our final patch that we ended up using. We then wanted a more text based logo that was our second final and it used a similar color scheme except much more basic. It is perfect for email signatures and other things of that nature. Some of the inspiration was on how to make mock-ups that would actually look good and we went through many color iterations until it began to look good in many settings.
Final Images and Business Assets
We decided to go with a patch that had mountains that resemble many of the mountains that can be found in the Phoenix area. We at first had a river running out of the mountains but ended up changing it to a path because we thought that was more appropriate for the kind of land that is around Phoenix. We made a big sun and cloudless sky because of the weather in phoenix. The saguaro represents the living organisms that also need to be protected. In the text logo, we took a simpler approach and only used two colors. We kept the font consistent and used this logo with two mountains in our text-based assets. In the end, the logo came out very satisfactory and we believe it is a major improvement for the Phoenix Mountains Preservation Council.
