My Charrette team was assigned Kimey's Place, a worn-down food market at the edge of the Mantua neighborhood. Our goal was to make this market a center for the community as more than just a place to eat. Using color and light as our inspiration, we wanted to show the vibrancy of the neighborhood and create a safe and welcoming space.
Inspired by the colors found all around the Mantua/Powelton area, our idea was to make Kimey's a beacon for the neighborhood. Following the 5 senses and the 5 principles of Mantua (beautification, health, education, jobs, and safety), Kimey's becomes a place that glows, literally, day and night.
We wanted Kimey's to be more than just the neighborhood stop-and-shop. Our redesign of Kimey's added important elements that make it a friendly place for all ages to stay and hang out with friends. Furthermore, Kimey's would be transformed into a green space where local plants would grow, giving the neighborhood a much needed sense of freshness.
