The Art of Olympic Athletics
For my major project in my final year of graphic design at university I was given the oppotunity to come up with any topic I wanted to and design a final piece from it. I found this a great oppotunity but a really tough challenge as I had to not only design my own final piece but also come up with my own brief to be able to design this. I did a lot of research into a wide area within and around the Olympics and found that there has never been a book designed to showcase the beauty of the Olympics through infographics. Once I had done research it was time to start designing the book, I also wanted a series of posters to go with the book. I designed the posters first and came up with three main areas to focus on, the nations that competed in the Olymypics, Medals won by continent and the events. The posters the book showcased the beauty and the art of the Olympics well. The book used the grid system used by Otl Aicher in the 1972 Olympics and I felt this helped make the design flow and stand out really well
