I volunteered as a freelance photographer for the Scottish Refugee Council during the 2015 Scottish Refugee Festival. At each event I worked to truthfully capture the emotions and story that was unfolding between the participants and volunteers. I aimed to portray the spirit behind the events to best represent the festival. The following are a selection of some of the photographs I took from a variety of events.
Challenges:
• Capturing honest, candid shots of all activities without interfering with the integrity of the event
• Gaining a well rounded understanding of the intent of the experience and the people involved
• Meeting a quick turn around for organising, editing, and submitting photographs
Outcomes:
• A greater understanding of the hardships faced by refugees, the efforts made by the Scottish Refugee Council, and the relationship between native Scots and refugees
• A wide range of photographs depicting the narrative of the Festival and all of the activities that took place
