Missouri State Currency Design

For this assignment I was given the task to design the currency for the state of Missouri. I choose to illustrate Chief Sitting Bull to represent the Sioux Indians. The state of Missouri was named after a tribe of Sioux Indians called the Missouris. The word "Missouri" means "wooden canoe people" or "he of the big canoe". The colors used where chosen to represent the landscape of the state. The green was used to symbolize the pastures and tall grass of the state, while the blue was used to symbolize the many rivers that run through Missouri. The state motto is incorporated on the bill and was established in 1821: “Salus populi suprema lex esto.” This means, “The welfare of the people shall be the supreme law” in Latin. This is also found on the Great Seal.
