Book & Magazine Adaptation

The objective of the Book Adaptation project was to redesign Carl Dair's chapter 'Relationships of Concord and Contrast' from the book 'Design with Type,' with a modern edge. By researching contemporary book spreads, grids and layouts, I understood that modern readers seek to gain information concisely and neatly. Hence, I used ample white space and short, concise information presented in a simple 3-column grid. The visual features plays a prominent role in enhancing reader interactivity through visual engagement, representing the textual content also through visual imagery. This imagery remains consistent across the web design of this chapter, as seen in the 'Web Adaptation' project.
In addition, the Magazine Adaptation project is another component of redesigning Carl Dair's chapter, but in this instance, as a magazine spread. The playful experimentation and typographical interaction gives a contemporary feel to traditionally older content. Text is used as imagery with the ampersand interacting with the 2-column text content. Overall, the project aimed to modernise the aesthetics of the chapter, presenting traditional content through a contemporary design lens.
