Public spaces are designed for specific use. Post-occupacy, people use spaces and objects in ways other than their intended design. This phenomenon is a reflection of the user's proportions and the proportions of the space or object, as well as the users needs. This improv of urban uses was documented throughout a transect of Philadelphia.
This lighting pop-up installation is intended to give the site a sense of identity and belonging while empathizing with others and bringing people together. A person’s value of a space reflects how it connects to their identity, so intentionally leaving fragments of personal identity in a space will increase the space’s use and break up people’s fixated paths. The users will weave their stories through identity statements consisting of struggles and goals. People will then climb their way through other people’s woven identity.
