Copywriting & Design: Headlines & Banner Ads

These are two samples of banner ad proposals for the CBC Demystifying McLuhan web project, which consisted of two contests:



The goal of the above banner ad is to drive traffic to the Demystifying McLuhan  "HTML5 Audio puzzle contest".

The call to action  "play to win" is augmented by the "prize/ cash" icon inviting people to click through.

The contest consisted of a series of famous or peculiar "McLuhanisms" - brief brain-tingling thoughts on media and culture as quoted by Marshall McLuhan. We scrambled the wording of the phrases and challenged the user/ audience to unscramble and re-arrange the words in their correct and "puzzling" order (even in the correct order McLuhan's thoughts and phrasings will often leave you scratching your head).

The reward for the user who solved the puzzle was to have their name entered in a daily draw for a $100 Chapters/ Indigo gift certificate.

The goal of the above ad is to drive traffic to the "McLuhan Mashup Challenge". The three prizes and the call to action of "Do the Mash!" is the teaser for the click through.

The actual challenge itself was quite involved and asked much of the users. The potential reward for successful entrants was a chance to win one of three prizes.
