This project was a finalist in the Loeries Student Awards 2017. The project was made to address the issue of unemployment in South Africa by providing an app that makes use of the gig-economy method to provide steady work flow and provide a means of promotion for informal workers who have skills in building and maintenance. The application provides a platform for homeowners to be able to easily access builders via their smartphones whilst the application for informal workers, who may not have ownership of a smartphone but rather a standard cellphone, allows for workers to communicate via USSD codes. Both an app and USSD option for communication is provided to informal workers as some workers may have ownership or access to a smartphone.
Below are wireframes to illustrate the user journey for both the end-users such as homeowners, and the journey for informal workers (whether they may want to work full time or part time etc.). This is because each user has specific requirements to suit different personas needs and goals. Thus, keeping in mind the various ways in which the application may be used for different scenarios.
Below is a basic systems map to illustrate how the application would communicate with one another.
Below illustrated the ways in which this project could develop further in order to create something that is truly sustainable through building a network and community.
