The Guggenheim Effect in Spain

The Guggenheim Effect in Spain.

Final Bachelor Project.

The paper examines some projects which have tried to reply the success of Bilbao revitalisation. The "Bilbao Effect" can be described as the conviction that emerges from the construction of the Guggenheim Museum, thinking that the Spectacular Architecture can improve the growth of a city. On the other hand, we understand spectacular architecture as the one which is spontaneous, which appears from the craving in spite of the study, and in most of the cases are designed by famous architects, who have been hired just for their brand.
This topic has been studied in many occasions, but this paper proposes an analysis based on selected parameters, in order to quantify the effects of the projects and compare in between them.

The paper is organised in two parts. The first one includes a mapping of all the projects considered spectacular architecture. The analysis began mapping the Pritzker´s projects, and it continues with the most relevant national and international architect´s projects. Afterwards, I select the ones which fit better with the paperwork. This necessary study, made my understand the importance of the problem, and arrive to some conclusions which carried me to the next part of the project.
In the second part I did an analysis of some of the projects mapped in the previous section. There was no sense in compare projects of different fields, so I choose projects related with the culture, in order to connect with the Guggenheim Museum. The analysis did not consider only technical dates but also Social Media Information, this way, we can evaluate the importance of the project in and outside the city.
